PAYSL REC COACH RESOURCES
Volunteering to coach your child’s recreational team is a great way to give back to the community by guiding young players on the field, and providing them with a safe place to do what they love!
Check out our Coach Registration Guide and follow along as you complete the registration process.
All coaches are required to complete a background check, and take two trainings which can be done virtually on your own time. These two trainings are Safe Sport and Heads Up Concussion training. Once you’ve completed the background check, your age group VP will be in contact with your roster. If you have any questions, reach out to your VP.
PAYSL, in accordance with STYSA and CAYSA, requires attending a youth coaching module within the first year coaching in our league. Click the link to learn more about the Coaching Education Program on the STYSA website.
Coach Education
Before each Fall and Spring season, our Director of Coaching leads coaching education sessions that are FREE to all of our volunteer coaches.
PAYSL Coaching Clinics
WHERE TO PRACTICE
Coaches can decide the day, time, and location for their team’s practices to make it as convenient as possible.
RESERVE PRACTICE SPACE WITH PAYSL
We allow teams to reserve dedicated practice space at PAYSL fields. Age groups 6U and below are able to reserve fields space for free on a first come, first served basis. You can submit your request online. Coaches may split a field in half with another coach if two are interested in the same time slot, but it will be your space every week.
For age groups 7U and above, there is a $10/player field reservation fee charged to each team who wants to practice at Wells Point Park. You may pay this fee online and then reserve a specific time slot to use for the full season. Depending on availability, you may share one field with another team. Some coaches even combine their teams to practice together, or scrimmage against each other.
If you have not reserved a day and time, you are not allowed to practice at Wells Point Park.
PARKS
Many Neighborhood HOAs have a small park or field space where and often times you can request to use it for free. Also, Pflugerville city parks are a great option for practice space. However, note that often times, other coaches are also trying to find practice space and the city does not take reservations. It’s usually first come, first served.
SCHOOLS
Many local PfISD elementary and middle schools have fields that are open for the public to use after school hours (and assuming the school isn’t planning to use it). Middle schools may have after school practices and other extracurricular uses for the fields so it’s recommended you contact the school to confirm its availability. They also don’t take reservations, so if another coach is already there, you may need to work out which days and times each plans to be there.
GAME RESCHEDULES
Coaches may request for their games to be rescheduled with our Referee Assignor, Floyd Melton. Our ability to grant your request will depend on the age and level of play, and the timing of the request.
4U–6U
These are purely internal leagues and reschedules can usually be accommodated. From the schedule page, find the opposing coach’s contact info and agree on a new date. Sunday afternoons often have available field space. Send an email to floyd@paysl.org, copying the opposing coach, and request the game be moved. This request must be sent at least 7 days in advance, otherwise the game will go on as a cancellation and will not be rescheduled.
7U–8U
This age group is mostly internal PAYSL teams, but it also includes teams from Wells Branch & Fierce. From the schedule page, find the opposing coach’s contact info and agree on a new date. Send an email to floyd@paysl.org, copying the opposing coach, and request the game be moved. This request must be sent at least 7 days in advance, otherwise the game will go on as a cancellation and will not be rescheduled.
9U–10U
This age group includes Recreational teams from PAYSL, Wells Branch, Georgetown, and Sting.
11U+
These leagues organized and scheduled directly with the Capital Area Youth Soccer Association (CAYSA). Requests must be submitted to them here.
